Tracey Moffatt is an internationally acclaimed artist and filmmaker. She has had solo exhibitions at the Dia Art Foundation and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Her influential experimental film Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy was selected for offical competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990, four years after this portrait was taken. She was a founding member of Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative. In 2013, she was awarded the Australia Council Visual Arts Award.
