Good fortune to a flame (curated by Mitch Cairns)
The Commercial is delighted to present Good fortune to a flame, curated by Mitch Cairns, an exhibition of new and recent painting by Aldo Iacobelli, Bill Hawkins and Elizabeth Pulie.
“Good fortune to a flame is an exhibition about ‘the painter’s reach’, a discursive model of painting, one that is dependent upon a type a visual literacy as informed by the levelling of historical painterly approaches. In practice, the art of ‘the painter’s reach’ is decidedly, stylistically varied. It is a permissive model of abundance, preferring a broad way-finding method above more incremental means. At its best, the art of ‘the painter’s reach’ is wholly sincere. In navigating what is an inherently precarious path, the artist-practitioner of ‘the painter’s reach’ is indebted only to sincere manoeuvrability and motive for the pleasures of its plurality.”
