Jude Rae: 5 x 6

It is with great pleasure that The Commercial presents Jude Rae: 5 x 6, an exhibition of new paintings and Rae’s third solo exhibition with the gallery. 5 x 6 zooms in on the artist’s still life laboratory, reducing parameters with the effect of heightening awareness of her ongoing project.

The exhibition comprises six small paintings of same size with variations around five depicted objects, no more than two or three objects in any painting. This process foregrounds that the objects themselves are but one element in Rae’s system and that spatial relationships, light, shadow and colour are as significant in the formal outcome of each painting. Reduced parameters increase viewer sensitivity to her intentions, sustained by just a few shifting variables.
