Narelle Jubelin: The Presence of Black
It is with great pleasure that The Commercial presents Narelle Jubelin – The Presence of Black, the Madrid-based Australian artist’s second exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition coincides with a major presentation of Jubelin’s work at Penrith Regional Gallery as part of The Housing Question – Helen Grace, Narelle Jubelin, Sherre DeLys, curated by Julie Ewington (22/06/19 – 25/08/19).
The Presence of Black brings together three types of work by Jubelin: her signature cotton thread on silk mesh petit point renditions of found images, cardboard pulp packing buffers, the ‘valueless’ former vehicles for valuable goods in circulation which in recent years Jubelin has cast in bronze and, for the first time, a rendition of a ring by Man Ray originally made in gold which Jubelin, in collaboration with Madrid architect Manuel Garcia de Paredes, realised in black Bakelite.
