Mathew Harris and Archie Moore present new work at the 2026 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Yield Strength, curated by Ellie Buttrose. Harris is presenting works at the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Samstag Museum of Art. Moore is presenting work at the Museum of Economic Botany in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Matthew Harris and Lillian O’Neil present major bodies of work in All the World’s Memories, curated by José Da Silva at UNSW Galleries, Sydney. The exhibition is on until 03.05.26 and includes O’Neil’s Slow Annealing (2026) and Harris’s Consigned to Oblivion (2023).
A solo exhibition by Matthew Harris, Overland, opens this weekend in the artist’s hometown at Wangaratta Art Gallery in regional Victoria. The exhibition “explores dominant power structures and historical narratives through a socially critical and conceptual practice in painting and sculpture. In Overland, Harris turns his focus to the lasting impact of colonisation on the Wangaratta region and its First Peoples, presenting a new series of paintings informed by historical documents. Using natural ochres and charcoal on hessian - a material chosen for its colonial associations and textile history - Harris weaves together personal and ancestral stories with broader material and cultural legacies.” Overland includes Harris' major painting series from 2024, The British Museum, on loan from the National Gallery of Victoria. Matthew Harris is exhibiting in Unbecoming at La Trobe Art Institute. "Unbecoming examines the ‘queer gothic’, characterising it through dark, horror-tinged imagery and themes; states of collapse and decomposition; and a focus on isolation and the individual. These themes are posed as counter-narratives to more dominant and typical framings of queerness through emergence, togetherness and communality." Curated by Tim Riley Walsh. Two paintings by Matthew Harris have been acquired by Murray Art Museum Albury. I Know Alone and Just Us Two feature in the current exhibition at MAMA, Hold the world to its word, and were part of the artist’s first exhibition at The Commercial in early 2024.

Mathew Harris’ public light installation, A Point in Time and Space, has recently been installed at 602 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne, as part of the Make Room initiative. Co-funded by government and private philanthropy, Make Room provides essential supportive housing for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
