As part of the festival to celebrate the opening of Powerhouse Parramatta, Justene Williams is presenting a new avant-garde opera, A Magical Hotstart, created in collaboration with Club Weld and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. In A Magical Hotstart, “Williams crafts a world of transformations, connections and emotions inspired by objects from the Powerhouse Collection and named in honour of the powerful act of hot starting a car (or a museum).” Presented in partnership with Arts & Cultural Exchange, Parramatta. Justene Williams’ video installation Big city big hat (2011) is included in The Edge of Things at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The exhibition features over 40 works from the AGNSW collection. Exhibition: 15.08.26 – 09.05.27

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, has announced a major survey exhibition, Justene Williams: Once we were mudskippers, curated by Ellie Buttrose. Spanning three decades of sculpture, performance, video and installation, the exhibition will be the largest presentation of Williams' work to date, bringing together works from public collections alongside ambitious new commissions, tracing Williams’ exuberant, anarchic and deeply art-historical practice.
